For my class project I chose to show part of my stamp collection. The formal term for stamp collecting is "philately". I started collecting stamps when I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, in my early thirties, I sold my stamp collection. Fortunately, I rebuilt my collection in my 40's and 50's. I collect topics that interest me. Categories I like to collect include airmails, animals, maps, colonials, and anything else I find of interest. I learn alot from stamps; I learn a nation's culture, history, historical figures, values, landscapes, geography, and economy.
My source about the stamps themselves comes from the 2012 edition of the Scott Stamp Catalogs. There are ALOT of stamps, so the entire Stamp Catalog is divided into multiple volumes organized alphabetically. Stamps are published ("issued" in philatelic terminology) every year, so a new Scott Catalog is printed every year. These catalogs are expensive, so I only purchsed the entire set of catalogs in 2012 - which is not an issue for me because most of my stamps were issued before 2012.
Here is a link to the Scott Stamp Catalogs bibliographical information.
Below is a list of some of the topics and places whose stamps are in my collection.
