My source about the stamps themselves comes from the 2012 edition of the Scott Stamp Catalogs.

Country of Issue Stamp Description Country's Location
France This stamp is one of my favorites because I think its design is very touching and poignant. This stamp was issued in 1960 to raise awareness for the World Refugee Year (1960). I think the artist did an excellent job of conveying the girl's despair and her only belongings among the ruins. This stamp also raised funds to aid refugees. Information about the stamps comes from the aforementioned stamp catalog.
French Somali Coast This elegant stamp was issued in 1937. The French Somali Coast is now called Djibouti. Information about the stamps comes from the aforementioned stamp catalog. Herm Island

I love these stamps. Herm is in the English Channel near the isle of Guernsey; Herm is part of the United Kingdom. The British postal service thought it was too expensive to service Herm. So, the residents of Herm created these stamps to pay for the cost of sending mail to Guernsey. From there the British postal service picked up the mail. I assume Herm residents had to pay for two types of postage on each item they mailed: 1) to Guernsey 2) for the rest of that item's travel in the postal system. Herm residents stopped using stamps like these in 1969.

France This stamp was issued in 1941; it shows the French Empire. Information about this stamp comes from the aforementioned stamp catalog.
